Japan Photo #40

What are these? And why is one set much larger than the other?
(For people who haven't lived in Japan and don't read Japanese.)

Look like bathroom shoes to me. Maybe adult and child sized.

Yes, we're lacking something to compare their sizes to. A hint: the smaller ones fit my feet.

Clearly the smaller ones are for a person to wear. They fit inside the larger ones and are used in rural areas. The sole of the larger pair is embossed with the track of Bigfoot, Yowie, Yeti or whatever is the Japanese equivalent.

The Japanese economy has been at a low ebb for some time. The government is issuing these tracking boots for people to wear in rural areas. They hope that some of the tracks will be noticed internationally and photos passed around on social media, thus leading to a boom in tourism by cryptozoically inclined persons. All hoping to catch a glimpse of this hairy primate so like us, yet so unlike us.

A rather desperate measure on the part of the Japanese government, if you ask me. Sorry if I am giving away any State Secrets.
