A holiday competition

My boys and my husband are now officially on holidays from school for 2 1/2 weeks. Yay! To celebrate, I thought I'd run a small competition.

I have four of these The Upper Room meditation magazines (Jan-Feb 2012 ed.) to give away. On the 28th of January they've published a meditation of my own (that's why I have these to give away). There's no limitation on where you live, I'll post anywhere in the world!

My meditation talks partly about childhood memories of a warm Christmas yet singing carols about snow. So what I want you to do is to write a comment on this blog before the 4th of January detailing one of your  childhood memories of the Christmas-New Year period. Or you can write a blog post about a memory on your own blog including a link to this blog, and post a link in comments on this blog so I know you've done it.

I'm planning to recruit a judge or two to help me decide which blog posts should be the winners. Any volunteers?

So get to it, tell us a special, funny, strange, or favourite memories of the Christmas-New Year period from your childhood. We'll pick the best four and I'll send you a prize.

Ooo I'll have to enter - I have a couple of blog posts lined up about Christmas memories. I've never actually seen a copy of The Upper Room so would love to win!!!

I've never seen a copy either! I think mine would have to involve the Christmas when I was about 5 and all three of the families on my mother's side squeezed into my Grandparent's tiny house - and we ALL caught gastro! Highly unpleasant for everyone - 8 adults and 9 children. apparently my grandmother ran out of sheets at one point. Gross.

Hi, Wendy! Great idea to have everyone share Christmas memories. I posted here: http://naughtbutgood.blogspot.com/2011/12/christmas-memory.html

Hope you're enjoying your family holiday!

You'll be able to read some of my Christmas memories here http://footprintsaustralia.com/blog/?p=1769 from Friday 23.12.11. Unfortunately it's not a happy memory ... but it does make me grateful for all that I am blessed with today!

Now for a happy memory. 24 years ago Lawrence and I had just begun dating, we went "public" with our romance by holding hands at our office Christmas party ... more in love than ever nearly quarter of a century later. So blessed!!!

Ok, here goes. My childhood was many years ago, but I do remember Christmas gatherings Uncle Brian and Aunty Elva's home at Williamstown. The whole extended family would gather, and share a meal and exchange gifts. Uncle Brian and Aunty Elva had no children of their own, but I've been told that Uncle Brian used to take great delight in visiting the toy store at Christmas time for his nieces and nephews (there were 9 of us altogether). We had great fun with our cousins playing in their lovely garden, and even playing on the beach (I think that was Williamstown). Uncle Brian is gone now, but I still remember him, and it gave me a lot of pleasure to phone Aunty Elva on Christmas Day this year, something she didn't expect to happen.

Here goes my memories...
When we were young, my grandparents lived in a nearby town and we would visit them after tea on christmas night. All the cousins were together and we had a great time getting to know each other again each year. Presents were few- I can only remember one gift ever from my grandparents- my papa gave each of the grandchildren a brand new fifty cent piece! I was so excited. Beautiful memories. by the time I was eight all but one of my grandparents were dead, and my nana was very illfor many years.
ps. this will be late for the comp. but thought i would share the memories. Maree
