Happy Seventh Blog-Birthday!

Today is the seventh birthday of my blog, this blog! No big give aways or self-promotion here. But I am pinching myself, seven years is a long time. 2,285 blog posts! That's an average of 326.4 posts per year. Wow!

I've had a lot of fun on this anniversary in the past, asking questions and getting comments. In fact I think that is one of the best things about blogging: getting feedback from people.

Other things I love about blogging are:

  • It helps me process life as it's going on in my life.
  • It's fun to look back on things I've recorded (like a public diary, I guess).
  • Connecting with other bloggers (though that seems to be happening less and less, I've outlasted many who were blogging seven years ago).
  • It's a great vehicle for sharing things I'm learning.

So, here are my slightly random questions for you (answer them all, or only one, I don't mind):

1. What do you like to do for your birthday, an ideal birthday?
2. How many countries have you been to, how many have you lived in?
3. Where do you feel most 'on the edge of ordinary' in your life?
4. Is there a blog post on this blog that sticks in your memory?
5. What's one thing you'd like to know about Japan?
6. What's one thing you'd like to know about Australia?
7. What's one thing you'd like to know about missionary life?

Happy birthday to your blog and congratulations to you Wendy. You have been amazingly constant in your blogging. Inspirational. So your questions...

1. What do you like to do for your birthday, an ideal birthday?
I like to not cook. A couple of years ago one of my sons cooked breakfast, the other cooked lunch and my husband took us all out for tea. I don't actually mind cooking...but it was fun not being responsible for any meals for a whole day.

2. How many countries have you been to, how many have you lived in?
I think I've been to ten countries. And if ten weeks in one country counts as living there then I've lived in two. Otherwise, I think I have to say one!

3. Where do you feel most 'on the edge of ordinary' in your life?
No two days are really the same for me so I get being "on the edge of ordinary." I think too, as you have written yourself, as our citizenship is in heaven and not on earth, that our days on earth naturally carry with them a certain edginess.

4. Is there a blog post on this blog that sticks in your memory?
I always love the blogs about daily life - your house, your office, the school. And some of the posts about the camping trips stay with me. They are always a treat to read.

5. What's one thing you'd like to know about Japan?
I feel like you have taught me quite a lot about Japan. Thank you. How does the cost of living compare? Things like the prices of average groceries. I know you live leanly and carefully, but do you think the cost of living is about the same or higher or lower? If I had to guess I would say that it would be more expensive in Japan.

6. What's one thing you'd like to know about Australia?
Pretty good on that subject.

7. What's one thing you'd like to know about missionary life?
And having spent many years on the state committee of a missionary organization and corresponded with many missionaries, I feel like I have a reasonable handle on this too.

Happy birthday again. And thank you again. I always love reading your blog.
