We're parked close to Anzac Parade, which leads straight up to the Australian War Memorial. The road is lined by beautiful eucalypts and many memorials, such as the Vietnam Forces National Memorial and the Australian National Korea War Memorial. |
This was our final official work day before we were officially on long service leave. We spent several hours at our supporting church (Westminster Presbyterian Church Belconnen). We spoke officially for only about 45 minutes, but talked with people informally for much of the rest of the time. Like churches we visited in Perth, we’ve been visiting this church regularly since 2000. They’ve watched our kids grow up in four or five year increments! And this time we came without kids. We also were invited to their church camp nine years ago, a fond memory! (Though also a memory of fitting the five of us, including our eldest who was 16, into quite a small car…)
It’s a strange thing visiting churches in such a fashion: you develop a familiarity with them that makes them seem more comfortable. Clearly they’ve kept us in front of their congregation over the years as we were greeted like old friends rather than strange visitors.
We'd gotten a lift with a friend to church, rather than pack up the motorhome. After it was all over we asked our friend to drop us at a shopping precinct close to where the motorhome was parked so we could pick up a couple more things that we needed to buy and then walked 20 minutes home. I made myself coffee and then nearly fell asleep on the bed before our sons rang us from Queensland and we chatted for a while with them. It was another good, but tiring day.
