Day 14: Canberra to Tomakin

On this day we left Canberra, but not before we saw a few more of the sights. Our first stop was the National Arboretum of Canberra. It's a relatively recent addition to the city after the destruction of pine forest by fire 20 years ago. The Arboretum opened to the public only 10 years ago. It is large and contains one of the world's largest living collections of rare, endangered, and significant trees. It also has a bonsai collection, which contains a number of Australian species, something you don't often see when bonsai are displayed.

On the way out of Canberra we drove across the dam wall for Lake Burley Griffin and then stopped at Spotlight at Queanbeyan and for lunch. We purchased a thin mattress topper to make our bed a little more comfortable (and it's worked really well), bonus that it was on a 40% off sale!

We then carried on and drove back out to the NSW coast, again across the Great Dividing Range through what felt like a lot of National Parks (none of which have we heard from). And we stopped at Batemans Bay for the largest grocery shop that we've done since we left Ipswich.

A few minutes south of the popular Batemans Bay (we've heard it's the holiday playground for our national capital) we arrived at our next stop: Tomakin, a town of about 1,000 people. It was a lovely quiet caravan park, but more about that tomorrow.
