Japan photo #13

It is about time to have another mystery photo from Japan.

I found this the other day.

Can you guess what it is used for and where I found it?
Again, if you've lived in Japan, please sit back and check out people's answer rather than giving your own. Mind you, my husband didn't guess it, so maybe you could have a go if you haven't seen one before.

This is the link to the solution.

  1. I'm guessing not scales because there's no display for a reading. Looking closely at the instructions, I'm thinking something for cleaning your feet. Do you wipe them on the edge maybe? Not fair to have two guesses, but the other thing could be some kind of heated surface that you stand on to warm your feet before hoping into bed...?

  2. Hi Wendy,

I cheated, so I won't say what I think it is, because when I enlarged the picture to have a better look, I noticed it had a model number, which I googled, then hit "translate". The translated description was less help than your lunchbox instructions, and only mystified me further. But there was a picture of one in use, and if it's what it appeared to be, I don't think that any Australian would imagine that such a device was particularly necessary. So I'm quite keenly waiting to find out exactly what it is, or what circumstances exist in Japan that would make it useful.

  3. Chris and I have just spent the past ten minutes looking at it and enlarging it and we still have no idea...like Deb, the best we can come up with is some kind of foot warming thing. Or maybe an electronic doormat? (why??)

  4. On second thoughts, having just arrived home from a camping holiday, I can think of one circumstance where a device like this may be useful, but I still don't think most of us would bother with one at home, if it's what I think it is.

  5. You're all doing great. I'm having fun looking at your answers and the creative ways you're trying to solve it. Tomorrow I'll reveal the answer.

  6. Maybe you can use it as a step, to do some aerobics?
    Or does it dry shoes?
