Its a very surreal feeling. Experienced same feeling in the Brisbane floods. Just had to go around the corner to see the flooding/mud/devastation. But our home unaffected - apart from no power for a few days. And couldn't feasibly help out due to caring for the boys (I did try at Kashelle & Andrew's place). And then, one just had to drive to the northside or some district unaffected and life continued on as normal.
